The stem bark has some properties and contains oxindolic alkaloids (dihidrocorinanteina, isorincofilina, pteropodine, mitrafilina, rhynchophylline, especiofilina, hirsutine, isomitrafilina, rincofilina, N-oxide-isomitrafilina, N-oxide-dihidrocorinanteina, N-oxide-hirsutine, uncarine F y yohimbine); Indole alkaloids, quinovic heterosids, triterpenes, steroids, polyphenols y proanthocyanidins.
Properties
Traditionally Cat’s Claw has long been used to treat:
- Immune depression and inflammation (inhibits TNF alpha production and, to a lesser extent, prostaglandin E2 production).
- Viral infections: it has an inhibitory activity on cyclooxygenase-1 and -2 (its immune stimulant effect regulates lymphocyte proliferation: helps fight viral infections and increases the rate of phagocytosis).
- Memory impairment: alkaloids (especially oxindole) exert a beneficial effect:.
- Enhance DNA repair, mitogenic response and leukocyte recovery after chemotherapy treatments.
Therapeutic uses:
Osteoarticular inflammation.
Gastric ulcers.
Recurrent infections.
Side-effects:
Can cause discomfort to people with gastric hypersecretory dyspepsia.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding: consumption is not advised.
