In Japan, a combination of these three mushrooms, maitake, shitake and reishi is used regularly   to increase defenses. These three fungi possess antiviral, anti-inflammatory,  antibacterial, antiplatelet, anticolesterol and antitumor properties. 

In addition to being strong immune boosters, they also reduce thrombus formation, moderate blood sugar levels (diabetes) and are effective in chronic fatigue syndrome.
